Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
--> Jerusalem Cielo Inertial Solutions, a leading company in the development and production of Inertial Navigation Systems for the defense industry in Israel and International Markets, is growing and looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join us to lead and design mechanical systems for Cielo’s cutting-edge products. This is a hands-on role with end-to-end technical ownership of complex, multidisciplinary products – from requirements definition and concept development through qualification, production release, and ongoing product support. You will work closely with Systems Engineering, Electronics, Optics, NPI, Production, and Quality, and serve as a technical interface with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors. In this role, you will: Lead mechanical development projects from system requirements and concept selection through detailed design, design reviews, prototype builds, verification, product release, and lifecycle support. Design precision mechanical and optomechanical assemblies, rugged electronic enclosures, and interfaces for PCBs, connectors, cabling/fibers, seals, and thermal paths. Develop solutions for vibration and shock environments while addressing strength, stiffness, thermal performance, sealing, EMI/EMC constraints, assembly, and serviceability. Deliver 3D models, production drawings with GD&T, BOMs, interface drawings, specifications, test requirements, and engineering change documentation. Select materials, finishes, manufacturing processes, fasteners, and commercial components; drive DFA, design-to-cost, reliability, and maintainability. Support procurement, prototype assembly, system integration, environmental and qualification testing, and the resolution of production and field issues. Role requirements: Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized academic institution. 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in multidisciplinary electro-mechanical or optomechanical product development. Hands-on experience with SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or comparable structural, modal, dynamic, and thermal FEA tools. Strong experience in electronic packaging and precision mechanical design, including CNC machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, and assembly processes. High proficiency in SolidWorks, production drawings, tolerances and GD&T. Practical experience designing for vibration and shock environments and working with structural/dynamic analysis results. Excellent problem-solving, proactive, hands-on, detail-oriented approach with strong system-level thinking. Advantages: Experience with defense, aerospace, space, or other ruggedized high-reliability products and MIL-STD environmental requirements. Experience with precision optics, fiber routing, alignment-sensitive assemblies, thermal management, sealing, or EMI/EMC-aware mechanical design.
