Student for the Department of Chemical and Biological Physics

Weizmann Institute of Science·Posted 5 days ago

Entry

The Frydman Lab in the Department of Chemical and Biological Physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science is looking for outstanding undergraduate students interested in joining guided research as part of their bachelor’s studies.

The research will focus on developing suitable phantom models (mechanical, electromagnetic, and physiological) that will allow us to optimize the groundbreaking experiments we are developing for cancer detection using MRI.

Our long-term goal is to enable early, personalized diagnosis of complex cancers, including prostate, pancreatic, ovarian, and breast cancer. Reaching this goal requires significant optimization, and as part of the research we will develop phantoms tailored for imaging these organs on the Institute’s Siemens MRI scanners, at field strengths of 3T and 7T.

Students with backgrounds in physics, physical chemistry, materials science, and bioengineering are especially well suited to this type of research. Those with engineering experience in areas such as RF, microwaves, and antennas, who are interested in projects involving hardware design and construction, are also welcome to apply.

Working hours are flexible, but a commitment of about 20 hours per week is expected.

Research in the lab will provide a unique and highly valuable experience for those interested in pursuing an academic or industry career, and will offer the opportunity to take part in work on innovative technologies at the forefront of biomedical research.

More information about the group’s activities can be found on the lab website: https://www.weizmann.ac.il/chemphys/Frydman_group
